Artists: Richard Sample

Richard Sample started out busking in the London Underground and then joined blues band, The Unmentionables. The band included French and British musicians, playing the pub circuit during the mid 1980’s. In the early 90’s, Richard (playing country blues harmonica and electric guitar) linked into the Free Festival / New Age Traveller scene with eclectic, anarchy-fuelled, punk-folk band, The Tofu Love Frogs, (albums: Rentamob, In a LittleTrouble) and later with the Dub-Diddly band, Head Mix Collective (album: Bridge the Gap), touring Southern Ireland, the U.K. and Europe. During this time, Richard also played and recorded with Ben Z Walker, taught classical guitar at a London FE college and studied Fine Art at University. A chance invite to play bass and fiddle on a tour in Richmond, Virginia (2011), sparked a return to live music and performance after a period of settling down to raise a family, whilst working professionally within Youth Work, Special Needs Education and Community Development settings. This included applying the arts to improve people’s mental health and build a network of wellbeing groups. A singer songwriter pathway emerged during a tour in Lexington, Kentucky (2016) with country-blues band, Dixie Jack. Richard is based in the East Midlands, U.K. and currently playing solo or with 3 piece band, The StrumBeats (album: Long Story Short). Bringing a modern blend of K-pop, EDM and hip hop locally to the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) music scene - ah-Na hails from Ellicott City just south of Baltimore, MD where one of the East Coasts most vibrant Korean-American communities is nestled along the I-95 corridor. Her writing is heavily influenced from early 2000s pop, dance and punk - as well as classical and jazz. Her debut EP was written and produced by, and recorded and mixed, at South Port Studios in Baltimore, MD - an local artist-owned collective founded by JP Lin - a NYC native who founded the studio in 2024. The EP's production blends traditional in studio work and recording with the latest AI music production tools. ah-Na, JP and the team at South Port Studios are working on her self titled full album release in early 2026.
