National Opera started out as a writing project towards the start of 2022, with no name, no plan and just one thing in mind: write music that they’d listen to themselves, and produce it all themselves. The band’s early releases including The Scenic Self and A New Kind Of Energy received support and acclaim from BBC Radio Leicester, Amazing Radio, Earmilk, Fame Magazine and Backseat Mafia among others, the band have played sell out shows across Leicester and London as well as appearing at a number of UK festivals. Ever prophetic, but not usually this angry, the band’s 2025 release The End Of Your Fast Car brings to light their anger at the current state of the world. “It feels more like an elegy, a pre-emptive funeral paean to a world not quite gone, one where a surface stillness is slowly undermined by ever more urgent dream pop and indie-electronic resonances underneath the surface, as if gasping for air. The song is deceptively soothing, but then, so is much of what we’re told by our betters and the media, asking us to enjoy the heat and the speed as the world withers away.” - Analogue Trash Their next single 'Even Then' releases 24th July 2025.
