Sicamore is the solo project of Gavin Housley, a South East London songwriter who’s been writing songs since his teens but kept them largely private—until now. Housley returned to the studio where he recorded two albums with his band William twenty years ago (“Self in Fiction” and “Slightly Delighted”). Same producer, and his first acoustic guitar his brother bought him on Denmark Street 28 years ago. Halfway There is a four-song EP exploring transformation through Jung’s process of individuation. Recorded with just vocals, acoustic guitar, and minimal drums, these reflective alt-folk songs move between melancholy and hope. “Sometimes it feels like I sing solutions to myself,” Housley says. “Difficulties are present, but the positive comes out in the songs.” Working in alternate tunings, Sicamore creates intimate, unhurried music—weird enough to be interesting, real enough to connect.
