memoriata is the solo project of Naarm-based Australian composer, pianist and music producer, Tristan Cadence Baker. Starting out as a composer of classical contemporary music, since 2013 Baker has been releasing intricate electronic music with ambient and traditional folk influences under the name memoriata. A classically trained musician specialising in early music and classical piano repertoire, they pay homage to their roots by weaving acoustic instrumentation, ancient melodies, and ethereal, unadorned vocals into modern, experimental compositions that often wouldn't sound out of place on a dance floor. Always keen to explore new avenues of sonic inspiration, each of memoriata's releases differ greatly from the last, drawing on genres as far ranging as minimalist piano music, IDM, alternative rock, techno, synthpop, ambient and traditional folk. memoriata's interpretations of these influences are entirely in a genre of their own while sharing a distinctive and recognizable style: multi-layered, cerebral, and hauntingly, nostalgically bittersweet.
