Like many people in their late-40s, Michael D Friedman, a.k.a. Clever Transient, decided one day that he wanted to write and record music. So he bought himself a little MIDI keyboard, a cheap guitar and some software and eventually learned how to play (mostly). From there, Clever Transient was born. I guess there’s nothing like a global pandemic to motivate you to follow your dreams… Within a year (2021), Clever Transient released two albums, “Experiments” and “Proverbs & Lies.” Both explore a realm of music that is hard to define. Like, really hard. So, let’s just call it indie experimental alternative electronic pop (or whatever). A third album, “I Used to Be Cool,” arrived in early 2023. Michael is also a writer, filmmaker and graphic designer from Atlanta, GA. Prior to 2021, his main musical background was playing trumpet in his high school marching band. That, and listening to a LOT of music. Today, he continues to study songwriting and music theory, and hopes to one day be what many call “good.” We’ll see… Major influences include Bran Van 3000, Radiohead, Bon Iver and Massive Attack, but it may be hard to spot them. He also runs the Georgia Indie Mixtape playlist. Fun fact: Michael also plays hockey (poorly).
