P Whispers (known alternatively as Rico Whispers) is a rapper, melodic rapper, singer, and songwriter originating in Texas. With familial roots in New York, Whispers, whose real name is Richard Perna, first found inspiration within East Coast hip hop and later became drawn to a more southern style; his early works can be seen as a blend between the two. At 18, P began writing and rapping verses alongside frequent collaborators, notably Nixin VanDough, MIDWAVEZ, and Nyne Piff. He incorporated a sound that combined trap music with a slight horrorcore twist, tapping into the matters of mental health as well as faith, love, and heartache. In 2022, P Whispers started releasing demo tapes utilizing a similar theme while beginning to exercise a poppier emo rap approach. He’s been releasing non-album singles since 2023 and has maintained a creative diversity, having tapped into the genres of Pop, Alternative/Pop-Punk and Gospel in 2024. His first EP, Growing Pains By P Whispers, was released that year as well.
