Born and raised in Gaoth Dobhair, Donegal, with deep roots in Belfast, Catriona is known for her work with Huartan, the trailblazing Tradtronica group. Her debut single ‘Amhrán na Réabhlóide’ was written for a protest at the Caterpillar site in West Belfast in June 2024, the song is an artistic show of solidarity with Palestine and honours the collective action of ordinary people - in response to the inaction of our governments. The melody is borrowed from a Christian folk-hymn, We Are One in the Spirit, learned by Catriona in primary school. ‘Siúlaimid uilig le chéile’ / ‘we all walk together’ is repurposed as a revolutionary mantra by the Donegal composer in her debut release. Amhrán na Réabhlóide was produced by founder of Stiúideo Feirste, Darragh Mac Dónáill, known for his work with RÓIS, Tailtiu, and Dáire Heffernan. The track features extended accordion techniques, experimental bellow shakes, and a haunting soundscape, shaped by collaborators including, but not limited to, Sarraj Al Sersawi on Oud, Ciara Maguire on fiddle and Múlú on backing vocals. The song builds from intimate sounds to sonic chaos - including raw and intentionally imperfect recorded-drum sounds that feel urgent, and alive in the spirit of protest. Influenced by artists such as Lankum, DakhaBrakha, and Pauline Oliveros, the track explores the combination of darker traditional elements and experimental techniques. Saoirse don Phalaistín.
