On top of everything going on in the world, 2020 saw the birth of Tim Williams’ second daughter, just before having his fourth heart surgery. The nine songs on Quiet Canyons’ self-titled debut album were written and recorded in the span of just two weeks, solely by Tim in Los Angeles. This process allowed him to gain control of all the chaos in the only way he knows how to - through making music. This album is by far his most personal and stripped down. We take a glimpse into the sleepless nights of Tim’s life. There isn't a single note sung or played that isn't absolutely necessary. Through years of songwriting (as a singer-songwriter, and in his previous band Soft Swells), Tim has learned the value of raw minimalism and the debut of Quiet Canyons embodies this fully. Master producer Dave Lynch elevated the tracks by mixing on a vintage SSL console, at Echo Zoo Studios in Eastbourne, UK. The finished product was then sent off to Christian Wright for mastering at Abbey Road Studios in London. And there you have it: Honest. Uncalculated. Unapologetic.
Long, poofy hair. iPods and flip phones. Printing out guitar tabs. Jamming with friends in the basement. Driving around, windows down, blasting the latest Weezer and The Strokes albums. For Minneapolis musician Chris Bartels (Elskavon, Bora York) high school in the early aughts laid the foundation for one of his longest-standing musical loves: garage rock. It was not only a coming-of-age season, but a birth-of-obsession season as well, when, bored one summer day, he picked up his older brother’s guitar on a whim. That was it - there was no turning back. The fusion between this newfound love of guitar, with his love of alternative and garage rock of that time, led to a steady dose of writing songs and riffs for the next 15 years and counting. Bartels so far has brought onboard several friends (Cory Wong, Ethan Cook, Reese Kling) to write KOATS songs with him - forever kept an only-for-nostalgic-fun garage rock project. No other agendas. Vintage, yet modern. Nostalgic, yet fresh. The concept had been on the fringes of his creative hopes for a long, long time. But, now with a wife of ten years and a growing family of his own, and over a decade to look back on everything, maybe Bartels’ growing appreciation for the ups and downs of those high school and college days was actually the key ingredient for this project. Then again, maybe the long, poofy hair will be growing back…
JC MDFKR'$ es un artista urbano peruano y fundador del grupo North Black Family. Nacido en Lima, pero con raíces norteñas de La Libertad, su historia está marcada por la lucha y la resiliencia. A los 10 meses de nacido perdió a su padre, quedando huérfano en una etapa muy temprana de su vida. Su madre, enfrentando la responsabilidad de criar sola a tres hijos, se dedicó al trabajo, mientras que su hermano mayor se convirtió en su principal guía. Criado en el Callao, uno de los barrios más peligrosos del Perú, JC conoció desde muy joven la realidad de la calle. A los 7 años ya salía solo, enfrentando desafíos que forjaron su carácter. Impulsado por la necesidad, empezó a buscar formas de generar ingresos desde pequeño. En medio de esa lucha, descubrió un talento que cambiaría su vida: la música. Inspirado por sus vivencias, JC comenzó a escribir y lanzar temas que mezclan emociones reales con pasión. Su música aborda temas como el amor, el desamor, la calle y las lecciones de vida, todo con un estilo auténtico y directo. Actualmente, JC MDFKR'$ está completamente enfocado en su carrera artística. El 2025 promete ser un gran año: se vienen nuevos lanzamientos, videoclips y muchas sorpresas tanto en su canal como en el de North Black Family.
