Junee is a strong and delicate project started in 2020 by Fhunyue Gao (RobinRobin, Gao Kacirek, FYI G) & Zoé Sjollema (Citron Citron). They are about to release their first album, Océan Oublié / Assordante, on the Geneva-based new hot label, Stone Pixels (Ethyos 440, Roshâni & more). Junee is a slow waltz that oscillates between pop, experimental and when the time is right, transforms into a stormy ocean that seizes the body. The theremin embraces and envelopes the violin, or perhaps it is the other way round, yet one cannot ignore the muffled urgency in this melodic and grating siren song that leads our wounded souls to dark heavenly corners, nor the intensity that multiplies as sound crashes like waves on synthesized ribbons. The name Junee was born after an intense encounter with a flying pine tree on a stormy road on the 5th of june 2022, and is a tribute to this fortuitous day of escaped misfortune. Fhunyue and Zoé’s collaboration was born in summer 2020 during a carte blanche. Realising the creative and multidisciplinary affinities specific to their individual arts practices, the desire was born to create together over the long term. After a residency at the Théâtre 2.21 organised by the Association du Salopard (CH), they presented a theatrical performance around movement in music. Then the musical aspect of the duo developed during a concert at Cave 12 (CH) in 2021, opening for L’Eclair’s release party.
