Raised in Austin, TX in a house of entertainment, Jonny was surrounded by artists and performers his whole life. An apprenticeship with a painter and industrial materials artist brought him to Denver, CO where he spent his evenings out on Denver’s music scene— a rich community of people singing from passion, not de-sensed by the music business. It was there he came into his own voice. Jonny's music follows a standard folk tradition in voice and guitar. Though it is a tradition, his songs are anything but old. His lyricism is fresh with new lines and phrases that stand people up instead of tear people down. The guitar skills are meh, but it puts greater value on living and doing, instead of technique and virtuoso. Following in the footsteps of the vaudeville acts and the cabaret performances he grew up with, he's developed a style where a single character goes on stage, develops an intimacy with the crowd, and speaks their truth. He might appear as “The Drunken Juggler” or "The Ring Master", and, each person, each song, is always going to be a thoughtful dialogue. There are no contemporaries. Jonny does his own thing. The only one you could point at as similar is Bob Dylan. They have a shared soul.
