American based emcee I.M.O searched the world for Japanese artist to be featured on his 2022 mixtape “Travels From The East Side.” He found Japanese emcee Wakao who instantly matched artistically. Inspired by 90s and early 2000s hip-hop groups, they created “Spirit of Osakana” as a new yet familiar sound in hip-hop. Hugely inspired by producers such as Nujabes, Fat Jon, Marcus D, and many others, they blend contemplative lyrics over hopeful Japanese inspired jazzy electronic beats. They have recently worked with artists such as Akin Yai from the legendary group CYNE and producers like Ikage, who won Shing02’s “LET IT SPEAK” beat competition. They aim to continue creating meaningful music with other artist from Nujabes legacy.
