Impurist were formed in Hull, England in 2023. Featuring former & current members of Extreme Noise Terror, Gorerotted, Winterfylleth & Hellbastard the band play Death Metal. Eschewing typical themes of religion and politics, Impurist instead focus on the typical theme of death for their lyrical subject matter and take musical influence from the bands they grew up listening to. In March 2024 the band formed their own collective Jailbeam Recordings and released their debut four track EP ‘Punishment Without Mercy’ on CD and cassette via licensing deals with Brutal Cave Productions and Macho Records respectively. A stateside CD licensing deal has since been inked with Bleeding Edge Records. Unusually for a Death Metal release, the EP featured a guest appearance from local Hull-based trumpet player Will Chalk and showcased a brutally intense riff-fest with plenty of blast-beats and vocals filled with assonance, alliteration and consonance. Continuing to work with independent labels as passionate about the music as them, in February 2025 Impurist released their second EP ‘Evolving Cortex’ in association with 783 Label on coloured vinyl, cassette and CD, with the vinyl release also featuring ‘Punishment Without Mercy’ on the B-side. Bleeding Edge Records once again release the EP on CD in the USA. The trippy and sinister cover art by Josh Brown merely hints at the darker, more intense path the band have found themselves on. Impurist are now writing for their debut full-length.
