Jonathan McNutt is a multi instrumentalist, composer and producer in Austin, TX currently writing and producing as a solo artist. Jonathan's musical background is diverse, including playing guitar and writing music for riff-rock jam bands, studying saxophone and jazz composition in college and then leading an original modern jazz band, as well as his current work writing and producing as a solo artist exploring post rock, ambient electronic and cinematic musical genres. McNutt blends these diverse influences into one distinctive artistic voice, which features frequent layering of multiple melodies and textures on top of one another to create intricate “collages of sound”, an emphasis on steady builds into powerful cathartic climaxes, and complex, sometimes dissonant harmony more commonly found in jazz and classical music than in rock or electronic music contexts. These elements combine to create an experience of transcendence in the listener, as you are immersed in one dynamic sonic landscape after another. Jonathan’s debut album Coming Home, a selection of ambient, cinematic and rock-influenced music written over several years, was released in June 2023. In Fall 2023, McNutt announced a new album in development focused on post-rock influences, called Take Shape, and plans to release the music gradually throughout 2024.
